Facing a 4th-and-1 from the Indianapolis Colts’ five-yard line in overtime on Thursday evening, the Denver Broncos decided to go for it instead of attempting a game-tying field goal.
Needing just one yard, Broncos coach Nathaniel Hackett decided to put the ball in the hands of quarterback Russell Wilson instead of calling a running play. Wilson locked on to wide receiver Courtland Sutton — his favorite target — and threw a pass into coverage that was broken up.
Denver lost 12-9 after the pass fell incomplete and wide receiver KJ Hamler was seen slamming his helmet on the ground in anger after the play.

Hamler had good reason to be upset as he was wide open but Wilson completely missed him with the game on the line.

“I could have walked in,” Hamler told NFL Network after the game.
In addition to that poor decision on the final play of the game, Wilson also threw two interceptions on Thursday. It was a night to forget for Denver’s quarterback and the team’s entire offense.
The Broncos will now have 11 days until their next game, a Monday Night Football showdown with the Los Angeles Chargers on the road in Week 6.
