The kitchen is more often than not the most important room of the entire home. Doubling as social hubs for entertaining and hardworking cooking spaces, there's a lot to consider when designing a kitchen, and the color of the kitchen cabinets ranks highly amongst them.
When it comes to choosing your kitchen cabinet color, it's important to do so with longevity in mind: the last thing you want is to re-paint them in the short term. And so, we think that as with all kitchen trends, the color of your kitchen cabinets should be timeless, while of course reflecting your personality and design style.
And so, what are the top kitchen cabinet color trends for 2025? Serving as inspiration for the year ahead, we asked interior designers for the colors they predict will reign supreme. From warm neutrals to bold greens, each of these color trends boasts a timeless quality, not feeling overly 'trend' led, but stylish and flattering to love for years.
10 kitchen cabinet color trends for 2025
Classic, neutral hues will never date but bolder options for kitchen cabinet paint colors are becoming increasingly popular – such as dark blue and earthy green. The color palette is hugely varied so take time with paint and material swatches so you can achieve the perfect look.
So what color trends are topping the wishlists of interior insiders for 2025? Is our love affair with gray kitchens finally over and how do we work the trend for deeper shades in our preparation zones? We reveal the top 10 color trends for kitchen cabinets.
1. Embrace trending forest green
Decorating with green has been incredibly popular this year, and that's showing no signs of stopping as we look ahead to 2025. When it comes to kitchen cabinets, dark, forest green shades strike the perfect balance between moody and sophisticated, a failsafe way to add drama to the heart of the home.
'I am really loving the trend towards forest green kitchen cabinets,' says interior designer Kathy Kuo. 'This deep and sophisticated green pairs beautifully with classic white and neutral tones, as well as with like-toned greens and grays; it also looks gorgeous with glamorous gold or brass accent hardware.'
2. Create a calming kitchen with soft blue
Going into 2025, we predict to see plenty more love for decorating with blue. But not just any shade of blue, specifically light, powder blues which create a soothing space. Since this color trend is so liveable, it works especially well with color-drenching ideas, taking the color beyond the cabinets to the walls, too.
'Soft blue is such a beautiful choice for kitchen cabinets,' says interior designer Honey Collins. 'I love how the shade can bring a sense of calm and freshness to a space while remaining versatile throughout the day. The way the color interacts with natural light can make a room feel vibrant and cozy at different times, giving it a dynamic and ever-changing atmosphere.'
3. Replace black with dark charcoal
While black kitchen cabinets saw appeal throughout 2024, consider going for a slightly less harsh dark charcoal instead.
'A dark charcoal such as Sherwin-Williams' Iron Ore is one of our current studio favorites,' says Julia Lauve, co-founder of Dallas-based design firm WORKSHOP Studio. 'This rich color is softer than a true black, but still packs a moody punch. In this kitchen, a modern double shaker profile serves as a major upgrade to standard farmhouse white cabinetry. We love using this color with rich, unlacquered brass cabinet hardware, and black plumbing fixtures for an extra wow factor.'
4. Embrace the warm neutrals trend
When it comes to decorating with neutrals in 2025, we can expect to continue the appeal for warm tones, replacing previously loved cool tones with their warmer counterparts. There are so many colors within the warm neutrals category, from beige to greige, taupe to soft pink, all of which will provide a calming, airy look while ensuring a homey and inviting feel throughout your kitchen.
'I love a taupe color on a kitchen cabinet – these tend to feel warmer than a white cabinet option, but also pair well with any color backsplash, countertop, or contrasting kitchen island color,' says Diane Rath, owner and principal designer at The Rath Project.
5. Add elegance with the darkest of blues
While navy was once a popular kitchen cabinet color, we're now seeing more appeal for even darker shades of blue that read almost black. Providing a statement and smart look, the darkest shades of blue can sometimes be what's needed to add depth to neutral kitchens.
'I'm really into the use of dark blues on kitchen cabinets right now,' says designer Soledad Alzaga. 'It’s bold without being overwhelming. Dark blue adds a rich, sophisticated touch to the space, creating a bold contrast while still feeling timeless. It pairs beautifully with brass, gold, or satin nickel hardware, marble countertops, and natural wood tones, making the kitchen feel both modern and elegant.'
6. Add drama with emerald green
'In a daring departure from the classic all-white or wood-finished cabinets, homeowners are now opting for deep navy or rich emerald green cabinets that make a strong and sophisticated statement,' says designer Kati Curtis.
'And two-toned cabinets, employing complementary or contrasting colors for base and wall units, are also gaining popularity, adding visual interest and depth to the kitchen space.'
Note the glossiness of these kitchen cabinets too. That's a huge trend making a comeback for 2025. Rich jewel tones, or deep gothic shades in really high-gloss finishes are really creeping up, and just see how actually, they aren't as dramatic as they sound. Here, paired with a wooden kitchen island and rustic touches, the high gloss gives a farmhouse feel – very unexpected and very chic.
7. Pick stains over paint colors
Unpainted kitchen cabinets are a big cabinet trend for 2025 so for a really on-trend and yet classic look opt for a stain over a color.
'I always like to use stained wood for kitchen cabinets. I think it is more durable and easier to maintain over the years. These cabinets from Henrybuilt have a great aesthetic that worked in a house that is more transitional than modern,' explains designer Holly A Kopman.
'We added the crown around the top of the cabinets to tie into the rest of the house. We used a walnut that has a blue tint, which is really beautiful in person. The clients love the color blue and this finish that is offered by Henrybuilt could not have been more perfect for the open floor plan of the house. The stain color also looks great with the invisible blue quartzite countertops.'
8. Switch gray cabinet colors for sage green
There’s no mistaking the popularity of green during the last 12 months. This fresh, positive shade has been all over our interior color radars and now it appears to be taking the top spot for kitchen cabinets too – swiping the crown from the gray palette that has dominated our homes for so long (too long, maybe). Green kitchens also echo our passion for greenery, indoor plants, and a natural mood that has taken root in every room in the house, including the kitchen.
'Green is the new gray,' announces Martin Waller, founder of Andrew Martin. 'The austerity of the gray age is over – and now it’s the age of Kermit, the Incredible Hulk, and all things emerald, lime, forest, pistachio, jade, and sage.' Green kitchens are certainly having something of a moment right now, say the experts.
'Perfect for your culinary hub, it’s a fresh color with earthiness and depth that leaves you feeling nourished and full of life,' says Tom Howley. 'Mossy hues may pack a punch especially when combined with burnished brass hardware and sleek white worktops. Painting just your island can be a great way to incorporate color in an otherwise neutral kitchen, providing a bold, captivating focal point without committing to a full-on green space.'
9. Channel the quiet luxury trend with cashmere shades
Quiet luxury and cozy minimalism are on track to remain prominent for 2025 – and for kitchens, this translates to a color that’s described as ‘cashmere’. Moving away from clean, clinical whites, cashmere is a go-to color for injecting warmth and simplicity all at once. There is a range of shades that fall under the cashmere umbrella – from cashmere beige to cashmere gray. Different lighting conditions will also alter the look of each one.
'A cashmere kitchen is cozy, inviting, and luxurious, just like the natural fabric that inspired the look,' says Marianne Shillingford, creative director at Dulux. 'Living in the color space between gray and brown, this is the new super versatile neutral for kitchens when you want a calming, light, elegant, and timeless look.'
Richard Davonport, managing director at Davonport couldn’t agree more: 'Cashmere is a great choice for a kitchen color as it evokes softness and warmth to a space. It is not overpowering or too striking, plus it offers a sense of comfort and familiarity that will really make a room feel like home.'
10. Introduce mood-boosting yellow
Sunny yellow kitchens equal instant happiness. So, what easier way to add a big smile to your home every day than with uplifting yellow kitchen cabinets? All shades of yellow are a big hit with the home for 2025, whether it’s rich mustard and deep ochre or saffron, fresh primrose, and citrus lemon. Sunglasses at the ready.
'Soft mellow yellows, punchy and bright greens, and soft delicate pinks, all give us a light and airy feeling, especially when the kitchen has lots of open shelves for displaying our greenery, flowers, and special-loved objects – things that brighten up our homes and give us a feeling of new beginnings,' adds Helen Parker, Creative Director at deVOL Kitchens. 'Our beautiful Scullery Yellow is a joy to watch emerge in so many new kitchens.'
Whether you're drawn to the warm neutrals or the richer dark greens, there's plenty of inspiration to take from these kitchen cabinet color trends. Above all else, make sure to choose a shade that aligns closely with your own taste: how much you love a color is the most important thing when designing your room color schemes.
