Kirsten Stewart Is ‘Committed’ To Directing A Twilight Reboot So Hollywood, Lock In

The year was 2008. Katy Perry released ‘Hot n Cold’, Barack Obama won the race for the White House but more importantly, the firstTwilight film hit theatres — giving the world a romantasy with vampires, werewolves and objectively the best baseball scene in all of film.

In today’s age of Hollywood, popular IPs are getting reboots and legacy sequels left and right, and you’d think The Twilight Saga would be no exception since its cinematic conclusion in 2012. Variety reported in 2023 Lionsgate were in early development of a TV adaptation of Stephanie Meyer‘s books, but we haven’t heard any further progress of the series since.

But if the studio isn’t keen, you betcha the OG actors are. Kristen Stewart — who recently made her directorial debut with The Chronology Of Water (2025)was asked by Entertainment Weekly during the Palm Springs International Film Festival Creative Impact Awards which movie from her filmography she’d revisit from a director lens. Turns out, she’s keen to direct a potential Twilight reboot, awakening Twihards across the globe like some kind of sleeper agent.

Catherine [Hardwick, who directed the first Twilight film] did, I love what Chris [Weitz, who directed New Moon] did”. I love what all the directors did with the movies but they were so themselves and weird and kind of squirrelly and just so present in that time when they didn’t really know what they were yet before they blew up,” Stewart said.

“Imagine if we had like a huge budget and a bunch of love and support. I would love to readapt. Yeah, sure, I’ll do the remake. I’m doing it. I’m committed.”

After spending her post-Twilight career in indie films, the Bella Swan actress pivoted to directing with an adaptation of Lidia Yuknavitch‘s memoir, fulfilling her lifelong desire to be behind the camera. She is now in Variety’s ’10 Directors To Watch For’, and would no doubt provide Forks with a glow up.

What about Bella’s other half?

Robert Pattinson — who played Edward Cullen — paralleled Stewart’s focus on indie films, with his most recent being Die My Love (2025) with Jennifer Lawrence. When promoting the film during Vanity Fair’s Lie Detector Test, Pattinson revealed his enthusiasm to return to the Twilight franchise.

“If they were going to direct a new Twilight, would you do it?” asked Lawrence.

“Oh yeah, for sure. It’d be great. I like taking jobs from younger actors,” replied Pattinson.

With Pattinson’s star power rising with films like Tenet (2020), The Batman (2022) and Mickey 17 (2025), a new Twilight film starring him would definitely rake in the $$$. Hollywood, you need to lock in!

What about Bella’s other other half?

Taylor Lautner has had a quieter film career after the Twilight films, not even reprising his role as Sharkboy for We Can Be Heroes (2020). The last we heard Lautner speak about Twilight’s future was in 2023 when he appeared as a guest for podcast Chicks in the Office; there Lautner resonated with the host’s sentiment that reboots are not the way to go.

“Why do we have to remake everything? Come up with new ideas,” exclaimed Francesca Mariano.

“Yeah,” Lautner agreed.

I think in this particular circumstance, we can make an exception.
