Kirkcudbright art map is a huge success

A map featuring Kirkcudbright’s independent art galleries has proven hugely successful.

The Kirkcudbright Art Map was launched in 2019 to show locals and visitors how to get around the Artists’ Town.

And it has proven so popular that it is now onto its third reprint.

Claire and Jake Irving from Jake Irving Ceramics in St Mary Street came up with the idea four years ago and are delighted with the map’s success.

Claire said: “The Kirkcudbright tourist office say it’s their most successful marketing tool. People just love it.

“We’re going to be up to about 15 artists this year. It’s just been incredible.

“People want to be on the map as we see people, tourists especially, walking around with the map.”

She added: “Tourists and locals all absolutely love it.

“It encourages people to come to town and walk around it to see all the independent artists.

“Kirkcudbright is bucking the retail high street decline. We have no empty shops in Kirkcudbright. Every one of them is owned by an independent business.

“I recently had tourists in saying how much they enjoyed coming to Kirkcudbright because it is all small, independent businesses and they know the money they are spending in the town, has a great economic impact for us.”
