Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins spoke to the media on Wednesday following phase two of the team’s organized team activities. When asked about new rookie wide receiver Jordan Addison, Cousins expressed his enthusiasm for working with him.
I’m excited to get him in here and see what he’s got. And whatever he’s got, to build on it. Just get him working, get him comfortable, and get everybody caught up to speed. And not just him, but our whole draft class.
The team drafted Addison in the hopes of elevating the offense and helping to replace Adam Thielen, whom the team released earlier this offseason. That starts with building a rapport with Cousins.
After talking about his excitement for Addison, Cousins displayed his leadership abilities by subtly challenging the rookie draft class.
Most of this team is built up of guys who were brought in here, young players, and you’ve got to get them up to speed fast. And then the better they can play and get caught up determines how our team does and how far we go.
Cousins is setting the expectation that the rookie class should be ready to work as soon as they arrive at OTAs. Last year’s draft class disappointed, so it will be vital to get contributions from this year’s class if the Vikings hope to repeat their success.
