The Georgia Bulldogs are dealing with several injuries in the running backs room. Georgia lost running back Kenny McIntosh to the 2023 NFL draft. McIntosh was last season’s leading rusher and receiving running back.
The Bulldogs return every other key piece from the 2022 running backs room. However, Georgia does have some early depth concerns at running back due to the accumulation of injuries the Dawgs have at the position.
What is the latest injury update on Georgia’s backfield?
Running back Kendall Milton
Status: day-to-day
Georgia is expected to start Kendall Milton in rushing situations during the 2023 college football season. However, he has missed action in fall camp with a hamstring injury. Milton is close to returning. Georgia head coach Kirby Smart updated Milton’s status.
Kendall (Milton) has been hitting higher speeds. He was not able to go today. I think he’s really close, but he’s been out for a while.
Smart provided the update following Georgia’s second fall scrimmage on Aug. 19.
Running back Branson Robinson
Status: day-to-day
Branson Robinson is another battering ram in the Georgia backfield. He is out with a foot injury. Robinson is practicing, but he’s not cleared for full contact yet.
Branson (Robinson) has been doing more each day in practice. He basically scrimmaged today without carrying the ball. He was in on plays, did pass protection, ran routes, caught balls. He looks pretty good out there, but we have not tackled him live.
Robinson getting reps in pass protection and as a receiver is very helpful for the sophomore running back. Robinson is not as heralded of a pass catcher as Daijun Edwards and is looking to improve in that area.
Running back Andrew Paul
Status: practicing/healthy
Andrew Paul is practicing, but is not back to full strength as he recovers from a torn ACL that he suffered before the 2022 college football season.
Andrew Paul has been good. I wouldn’t say he’s 100 percent. He’s a post-ACL knee. I guess he’s at a year – I don’t know if it was a year today or a year last scrimmage it happened – but he looks better and better.
Kirby Smart is hoping that Paul will be fully healthy in time for the UT Martin game.
Georgia's healthy running backs
Daijun Edwards and Roderick Robinson are both fully healthy. Edwards is projected to be Georgia’s top receiving back in 2023.
Georgia could also rely on Len’Neth Whitehead, a transfer from Tennessee, freshman Kyron Jones, and walk-ons Sevaughn Clark and Cash Jones.
When Georgia really needs a healthy running back room
The Bulldogs need to have a healthy running back room entering the SEC slate. Georgia’s first SEC game is at home against South Carolina on Sept. 16.
