Kirby Estate: London estate unveils new mural ahead of Euros 2024

A London estate famous for its support of England during international tournaments has unveiled a new mural to back Gareth Southgate’s side for the Euros.

The Kirby estate in Bermondsey, south London, has unveiled a mural of 25-year-old Eberechi Eze, who locals said could be a break-out star of Euros 2024.

The artwork was created by street artists MurWalls, who are behind portraits of Raheem Sterling and Gareth Southgate in the past.

Chris Dowse, 45, who is one of the organisers behind the display said the estate would be adorned with its customary flags by Saturday.

However, the father-of-three said the number of flags would be reduced from previous celebrations because the price of flags has gone up.

“So we did a thing again,” he said on social media.

“This time we went for a player who we think, if given the chance, is going to set the Euros alight! Not to mention he's a local boy from Greenwich.”

He added: “Flags are currently going up day by day. We will be near on finished by the weekend.”

Eze, born in nearby Greenwich, plays for Crystal Palace and appeared on Millwall’s youth team.

England will face Denmark, Slovenia and Serbia in their Euro 2024 group. Their first game on Sunday June 16 will see them face off against Serbia.

They will then take on Denmark four days later in Frankfurt.

They then round off their group on Tuesday June 25 in Cologne against Slovenia.
