Kendric Davis has underlined his MVP credentials as the Sydney Kings reclaimed top spot on the NBL ladder and ended Illawarra's title defence with a 120-94 thumping of their NSW rivals.

The Hawks, who ended a 24-year championship drought last season, needed to win their final three games by big margins and have other results fall their way in order to make the finals.
