King George VI Chase Trends 2024: Key 82% Age Stat To Find Kempton Winner

Use Andy Newton’s King George VI Chase trends to help find the horses with the best historical profile of winning the popular Boxing Day feature at Kempton Park.

Then, once the final King George VI Chase runners are out, you can apply these stats to the entries – which will help narrow down the field and rule out some that have horse racing history against them.

King George VI Chase Trends 2024: What Are The Best Kempton Stats?

  • 20/22 – French (14) or Irish bred (6)
  • 18/22 – Won over 3m or further (fences) before
  • 18/22 – Aged 8 or younger
  • 18/22 – Ran within the last 5 weeks
  • 18/22 – Won a Grade One chase before
  • 17/22 – Top three last time out
  • 17/22 – Favourites placed
  • 16/22 – Officially rated 167 or higher
  • 16/22 – Priced 9/2 or shorter
  • 13/22 – Won over fences at Kempton
  • 12/22 – Won last race

  • 11/22 – Trained by Paul Nicholls (13 times in all)
  • 11/22 – Favourites
  • 10/22– Raced in the Betfair Chase (Haydock) last time out
  • 8/22 – Won by a previous winner
  • 4/22 – Irish-based yard (only 5 in the last 38 runnings)
  • Paul Nicholls, the Tizzard yard and Nicky Henderson have trained 16 of the last 18 winners between them (11 Nicholls, 2 Tizzard, 3 Henderson)
  • Trainer Willie Mullins has only won the race twice (2021 Tornado Flyer and 2001 Florida Pearl)
  • The average winning SP in the last 22 years is 6/1

82% Of The Last 22 King George VI Chase Winners Were Aged 8 Or Younger

Last year’s King George VI Chase winner Hewick was aged 8 and he became the sixth winner that age to win since 2014.

Plus, with the winners in-between aged 6 or 7, this has meant ALL of the last 12 winners were aged 8 or younger.

This King George VI Chase age trend goes back even further too. Yes, Cue Card won as a 9 year-old in 2015 and Kauto Star was winning the Boxing Day feature for a fifth time aged 11 in 2011.

However, if we go back over the last 22 runnings, only four winners of the race were aged 9+ – meaning, in short, you’ll have the best chance of finding the winner looking for horses aged 8 or younger.

The potential older horses in the race in 2024 are Envoi Allen (10), plus the 2022 winner Bravemansgame (9) and L’Homme Presse (9).

We’ve also got a 5 year-old in the race this year – Juntos Ganamos, who will look to become the first winner aged 5 since 1950 (Manicou).

Look For A Top Three Finish Last Time Out

The next King George Chase trend to look for is the recent run of your fancy.

This is because 17 of the last 22 winners (77%) took the Kempton race having finished in the top three last time out.

You can also take this stat a tad further by knowing that 12 of the last 22 winners also won their most recent race.

Most of the King George class of 2024 will fit the ‘top 3′ last time stat, but those that DON’T are – Il Est Francais, Banbridge, L’ Homme Presse, General En Chef.

How Have The King George VI Chase Favourites Fared?

For a race that many ‘once-a-year’ punters have a wager on, the King George VI Chase has been kind as 50% of the last 22 favourites with the best horse racing betting sites in the UK have won.

Plus, an even better 77% of the last 22 market leaders have also been placed. Tell us that if the jolly doesn’t win, they are often never far away.

The recently supplemented Spillane’s Tower looks set to go off as the King George favourite.

Respect Any Paul Nicholls King George VI Chase Runners

No trainer has won the King George VI Chase more times than Paul Nicholls.

The Ditcheat handler has an incredible 13 successes in this Kempton race to his name – a record that is likely to only increase and stand for a long time.

Nicholls grabbed his first win in 1997 with See More Business, who won again in 1999.

Kauto Star mopped up five wins between 2006 and 2011, while the most recent Paul Nicholls King George winner was Bravemansgame in 2022.

Past King George VI Chase Winners Have A Good Record Of Following Up

With a lot of horse racing fans coming out the woodwork just for this race, in recent years they’ve been rewarded with familiar names coming back for more.

In short, past winners of the King George VI Chase have a decent record, which could be a plus for Bravemansgame and Hewick – the last two winners of the race.

Over the last 22 runnings of the race there have been 8 previous winners – these were Clan des Obeaux (2), Silviniaco Conti (2), Long Run (2), Kauto Star (5) and Kicking King (2).

Last year’s winner (2023), Hewick WON’T run, however – and will head to the Savills Chase at Leopardstown on the 28th December.

But we will see the 2022 winner Bravemansgame. He’s not won a race since taking this (9 runs) and will look to become the first horse to regain the race since Long Run in 2012.
