King Charles supports football team who have clinched promotion before Coronation

Football will mark the Coronation of King Charles III this weekend, with the new monarch's coronation on Saturday affecting football fixtures up and down the country.

It is a huge weekend of action, with plenty of promotions and relegations to be confirmed up and down the pyramid, but the King himself will be safe in the knowledge that his club Burnley have already secured their ascension to the top flight. The King revealed his support for the Clarets during a visit to the Lancashire town in 2010.

Manager Vincent Kompany has earned a huge achievement this season, with his side winning the Championship during his first season in charge. They will mark the Coronation by lifting the trophy on Monday afternoon, with their final home match of the season against Cardiff City set to be a joyous affair.

Having revealed his support of the Clarets by attending an event, the then Prince of Wales met those who had participated in community projects in the town, with Prince William speaking in his role as head of the Prince's Trust. While he may not be spotted in the stands on Monday, his allegiance to Burnley will give the fans something else to celebrate this weekend.

However, there may be a new club fighting for the King's affections, with Charles III having visited Wrexham's Racecourse Ground in December alongside Queen Consort Camilla. There, he met with Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney as they were introduced to players and staff at the Welsh club.

With the King's affiliation to Wales in his long-time role as Prince of Wales, his affections may be split should Wrexham and Burnley ever meet each other on the Dragons' ascent up the football pyramid.

The Royal Family are passionate sports fans, with the new Prince of Wales, William, having been spotted on multiple occasions attending Aston Villa matches as well as England's matches at Euro 2020.

He is President of the FA, while his wife Catherine, Princess of Wales, is patron of the Rugby Football Union, and is a regular face at international fixtures. He and his wife were both at Wales vs England in the Six Nations earlier this year, with the future King supporting Wales in his role with the WRU.

Both Princes William and Harry were believed to be big fans of football growing up and are also keen players having enjoyed the sport at Eton College. They have participated in matches in the past, with both brothers' participation in a Christmas Eve match at Sandringham for a local pub team hitting the headlines in 2015.
