King Charles's address to the nation covered a number of unexpected topics - including a sweet tribute to Harry and Meghan. The Monarch covered a range of topics in his six-minute speech - including, of course, his emotional tribute to his mother, who died yesterday.
The 73-year-old also even included a tribute to his late father, Prince Philip, by delivering his speech from his desk, after having it shipped down from Scotland. Charles began his address by telling the nation: "I speak to you today with feelings of profound sorrow.
"Throughout her life, Her Majesty The Queen – my beloved Mother – was an inspiration and example to me and to all my family, and we owe her the most heartfelt debt any family can owe to their mother; for her love, affection, guidance, understanding and example.”

1. Love for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle
Charles also used his speech to send his love to his younger son and daughter-in-law, Meghan Markle. The couple were in Europe when the Queen passed away and Harry rushed to Balmoral to be with his family.
The King said: "I want also to express my love for Harry and Meghan as they continue to build their lives overseas."
The moving message comes after months of tensions between Charles and his son, worsened by his Oprah Winfrey in which Harry accused his dad of cutting him off financially.
2. New titles for Prince William and Kate Middleton
The King said his eldest son and heir, William, assumes the Scottish titles "which have meant so much to me”, and succeeds him as the Duke of Cornwall.
He said: "Today, I am proud to create him Prince of Wales, Tywysog Cymru, the country whose title I have been so greatly privileged to bear during so much of my life and duty.
“With Catherine beside him, our new Prince and Princess of Wales will, I know, continue to inspire and lead our national conversations, helping to bring the marginal to the centre ground where vital help can be given.
"I want also to express my love for Harry and Meghan as they continue to build their lives overseas.”
3. Praise for 'darling wife' Camilla
After making Camilla his Queen Consort, in line with the Queen's wishes, Charles praised his wife's dedication to the royal family.
Speaking about a "time of change", he said: "I count on the loving help of my darling wife, Camilla. In recognition of her own loyal public service since our marriage seventeen years ago, she becomes my Queen Consort.
"I know she will bring to the demands of her new role the steadfast devotion to duty on which I have come to rely so much."
There had been much speculation about whether Camilla would become Consort, however the Queen used her Accession Day speech to express her wish for her daughter-in-law to have the title.
Speaking in February, she said: "I was blessed that in Prince Philip I had a partner willing to carry out the role of consort and unselfishly make the sacrifices that go with it. It is a role I saw my own mother perform during my father’s reign.
"This anniversary also affords me a time to reflect on the goodwill shown to me by people of all nationalities, faiths and ages in this country and around the world over these years. I would like to express my thanks to you all for your support.
"I remain eternally grateful for, and humbled by, the loyalty and affection that you continue to give me. And when, in the fullness of time, my son Charles becomes King, I know you will give him and his wife Camilla the same support that you have given me; and it is my sincere wish that, when that time comes, Camilla will be known as Queen Consort as she continues her own loyal service."
4. Tribute to the Queen and Prince Philip
In his speech, The King paid tribute to the Queen, opening his speech with: "I speak to you today with feelings of profound sorrow. Throughout her life, Her Majesty The Queen – my beloved Mother – was an inspiration and example to me and to all my family, and we owe her the most heartfelt debt any family can owe to their mother; for her love, affection, guidance, understanding and example.
"Queen Elizabeth was a life well lived; a promise with destiny kept and she is mourned most deeply in her passing. That promise of lifelong service I renew to you all today.
He finished with an emotional honouring of "darling Mama", as he added: "As you begin your last great journey to join my dear late Papa, I want simply to say this: thank you.
"Thank you for your love and devotion to our family and to the family of nations you have served so diligently all these years. May ‘flights of Angels sing thee to thy rest’.”
5. Acknowledgement of what he can no longer do
The Monarch acknowledged how his life has hugely changed overnight, following the loss of his mother, aged 96, as she died at Balmoral Castle yesterday.
In his address, the King said: "My life will of course change as I take up my new responsibilities.
"It will no longer be possible for me to give so much of my time and energies to the charities and issues for which I care so deeply. But I know this important work will go on in the trusted hands of others."
6. Funeral details
King Charles also referenced the Queen's funeral - which is thought to be taking place on September 19, after several days of mourning.
He talked about how the country will come together 'as a nation' and called up on the public to 'draw light' from the strength of Her Majesty's example.
He added: "In a little over a week’s time we will come together as a nation, as a Commonwealth and indeed a global community, to lay my beloved mother to rest.
"In our sorrow, let us remember and draw strength from the light of her example.
"On behalf of all my family, I can only offer the most sincere and heartfelt thanks for your condolences and support. They mean more to me than I can ever possibly express."
7. Corgi tribute
The King spoke at a table decorated with corgis - in a nod to his mother's deep fondness for the breed.
To his left was a framed photograph of his late mother the Queen, smiling broadly and wearing a vivid blue coat and matching hat decorated with a red flower.
And on the right, delicate white sweet peas set with sprigs of rosemary – the herb a traditional symbol of remembrance – were placed in memory of Elizabeth II.
The posy stood in a small silver vase – at the base of which were several small silver playful-looking corgis.
The ornament was used by the Queen when she used to sit at the very same desk.
