King Charles proclamation timings in Leeds as city pays tribute to new reign

While the formal announcement of King Charles III is held, the city of Leeds will be honouring the proceedings from Yorkshire.

King Charles will be proclaimed at the Accession Council in the state apartments at St James’s Palace in London, from 10am on Saturday. The King will make his declaration and will be accompanied by the Queen Consort and the Prince of Wales who are both privy counsellors.

Flags on public buildings will be flown at full-mast from 11am for about 24 hours, below are the details of what will happen in Leeds city centre.

The formal West Yorkshire Proclamation of King Charles III will take place at Leeds Civic Hall on Sunday, at 12.45pm. The High Sheriff will be accompanied by the Lord Mayor of Leeds, Councillor Robert W Gettings MBE JP and Lord Lieutenant in proclaiming the reign of the new monarch.

Flags at all Leeds City Council civic buildings will be raised to full mast to mark the occasion. Following the proclamations flags will be re-lowered to half-mast where they will remain for the duration of the period of national mourning.

The short historic service will be live streamed on Leeds City Council’s YouTube channel for people who are unable to attend. Attendees will have the chance to sign the book of condolence after the service.
