With the date for King Charles III's coronation confirmed by Buckingham Palace as May 6 next year, it will no doubt evoke memories of Queen Elizabeth II's coronation - including Charles himself. Speaking on his mother's 80th birthday, the then-Prince Charles, who was aged four at the time, recalled how he felt in the run-up to the Queen's coronation.
He said: "I have vivid memories of the coronation. I remember my mother coming to say goodnight to my sister and me while wearing the crown so that she could get used to its weight on her head before the coronation ceremony. I recall thousands of people gathered in The Mall outside Buckingham Palace chanting 'We want the Queen' and keeping me awake at night."
