King Charles III will be at the centre of one the most historic days in the country's recent history when his coronation is held next year.
The Palace announced that the monarch's coronation will be held on May 6, 2023, taking place eight months after the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. During the ceremony, Charles III will be anointed with holy oil and will receive the orb, coronation ring, and sceptre while finally being crowned with the highly sacred St Edward's Crown.
The Palace said: “Buckingham Palace is pleased to announce that the coronation of His Majesty The King will take place on Saturday 6th May 2023. The coronation ceremony will take place at Westminster Abbey, London, and will be conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury.

“The ceremony will see His Majesty King Charles III crowned alongside the Queen Consort. The coronation will reflect the monarch’s role today and look towards the future, while being rooted in longstanding traditions and pageantry.”
For the majority of the country, the day of the coronation will already be important - but it will be even more so for one particular royal family member.
This is because May 6 also marks the birthday of Archie Mountbatten-Windsor, the son of Prince Harry and Meghan. The day of the coronation will run alongside the fourth birthday of the King's grandson
Prince Archie is an important member of the royal family because he currently stands sixth in line to the succession of the British Throne. While it's common knowledge that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have a strained relationship with other senior members of the royal family, it is not yet clear if the dates clashing is intentional.
The Sussexes have also previously suggested that they want their children's private lives to remain out of the spotlight, so it's likely there won't be much publicity separate from the coronation next year.
However, the day of the coronation doesn't just mark the birthday of Archie, but also the wedding anniversary of the late Queen's sister Princess Margaret. Similarly, the King's grandfather, King George VI, held his coronation in May.
