Kimberley Walsh will feel 'closer' to Sarah Harding during charity run in her honour

Kimberley Walsh has said she's looking forward to "feeling a little bit closer" to her late bandmate Sarah Harding during a charity run that's being held in her memory this weekend.

Sarah - who was a member of Girls Aloud - passed away last September, aged 39, just weeks after the singer had announced that she had been diagnosed with cancer.

Her bandmates - including Kimberley, 40 - will be taking part in Cancer Research UK's Race for Life on Sunday (July 24) to pay tribute to Sarah and raise funds for charity.

The 5km event is being held at Hyde Park in London with Nicola Roberts, 36, Cheryl, 39, and Nadine Coyle, 37, set to attend - whilst Kimberley will be taking part remotely.

Kimberley and Nicola spoke about the event on BBC Radio 2 's The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show earlier, with it revealed that fundraising for charity had been one of Sarah's final wishes.

During the interview, Kimberley said the Race for Life for Sarah will be a "special experience" for both the band and their fans, with her expecting to feel close Sarah doing it.

She explained to Zoe Ball, 51, on the radio show earlier this morning: "I'm kind of looking forward to just feeling a little bit closer to her in that moment.

"I know that sounds strange but there are these moments that happen still where I suddenly just feel like close to her again and I just love that and I cherish those moments."

Nicola said that the charity run had presented the "perfect opportunity" to come together for Sarah, with the band not wanting to do a performance without her.

She said in the interview: "We really felt so uncomfortable to do anything in terms of a performance or an event in that way without her, that just doesn't feel OK to us."

The pair also opened up about their experience with grief, with Nicola explaining that the passing of Sarah - who had been in the band with them since 2002 - is "still a shock."

Kimberley said: "It's crazy to me to think that it's almost been a year. It's a daily challenge, let's put it that way, and I think it throws you at the times that you don't expect it."

Nicola added: "You kind of go back to like when it was the five of us and never in your wildest nightmares could you ever have imagined that it would have gone this way."
