Kim Min-jae could have choice of two preferred shirt numbers should he sign for Manchester United

Manchester United have been heavily linked with a move for Napoli centre-back Kim Min-jae in recent weeks.

Kim enjoyed a very good debut season in Italy having joined from Fenerbahce last summer. In total, the 26-year-old made 45 appearances in all competitions as Napoli won Serie A and reached the Champions League quarter-finals.

Barring suspension and a couple of games where he was rested, the South Korean international was an ever-present member for the Naples team. Unfortunately for the Italian side, this has led to reported interest from further afield.

Reports in the Italian media have suggested a move for Kim to Old Trafford is all but complete. Il Matino has reported Kim said his farewells to the Napoli squad after their game on Sunday.

The report adds Kim then travelled to South Korea to complete his military service before looking to finalise his transfer to United. Calciomercato adds the Reds would be able to sign the defender for a fee of €60m and bet365 has him down at 2/5 to make the switch to Old Trafford.

Should these rumours lead to a permanent deal, Kim could well benefit from player departures to gain his preferred squad number. Currently, Kim wears the number three for Napoli.

This number currently belongs to Eric Bailly but he is set for the exit door following a loan spell at Marseille this season. On the international stage, Kim wears the number four which will also be available at the end of the season as it belongs to the departing Phil Jones.

It is possible there could be a fight for the number four though as Raphael Varane wears it for France and he could be looking to upgrade his number 19 shirt in the summer. Other numbers Kim has worn previously include the number two which belongs to Victor Lindelof, 20 which is Diogo Dalot's, 23 which is Luke Shaw's and 15 which belongs to Marcel Sabitzer.
