Kim Kardashian 's trainer insists her 16-pound weight loss to fit into Marilyn Monroe's iconic dress at the 2022 Met Gala was not unhealthy.
She wore the skintight gown worn by Monroe when she sang 'Happy Birthday' to then-US president John F. Kennedy in 1962.
The reality star was loaned the outfit from the Ripley's Believe It or Not! museum, which paid $4.8m (£3.9m) for the dress at an auction in November 2016.
The figure-hugging Jean Louis gown has more than 6,000 crystals adorned on it and Keeping Up with the Kardashians alum admitted to Vogue on the red carpet during the event that she was on a no-carb and no-sugar diet over a three-week period in order to fit into the outfit.
She also admitted that she wore a sauna suit two times a day and ran on the treadmill, as well as bleaching her hair for more than 10 hours, to complete the iconic look.
Her trainer, Don-A-Matrix, spoke to TMZ and responded to claims that the diet was unhealthy.
He said: "Not at all. Not from my end from what I saw. We were working out sometimes twice a day.
"I think one of the misconceptions people have about Kim is she works like, really hard, so I was there through the process. So, it wasn't like a starving herself type of thing. I mean, she's been on a balanced diet.
"At times, she wouldn't eat as much, but the second thing is she really put the work in." He added that "it's possible to lose 20 pounds in a healthy way".
Kim's efforts still proved in vain somewhat as she could not zip up the dress fully, with the 41-year-old covering her back with a white fur shawl.
However, not everyone was impressed. Without naming the SKIMS founder, Riverdale actress Lili Reinhart criticised "stupid, harmful celebrities whose entire image revolves around their bodies".
She wrote on Instagram : "To walk on a red carpet and do an interview where you say how starving you are... because you haven't eaten carbs in the last month... all to fit in a f****** dress?
"So wrong. So f***** on 100s of levels. To openly admit to starving yourself for the sake of the Met Gala.
"When you know very well that millions of young men and women are looking up to you and listening to your every word. The ignorance is other-worldly disgusting."
