Kilmarnock have 'responsibility' to avoid drop and Derek McInnes believes side has what it takes

Derek McInnes believes his side have what it takes to avoid the dreaded drop.

It’s a massive week for Kilmarnock who face both direct relegation rivals – with four points enough to secure Premiership safety.

A win away to Dundee United tonight would leave Killie needing just a point at home to Ross County on Survival Sunday.

It could all be done with a game to spare should the Staggies lose to St Johnstone tonight, twinned with a Killie victory at Tannadice, but McInnes won’t be counting on any favours.

The Rugby Park gaffer has faith that his players can steer clear of their second relegation in three years.

He said: “I deliberately didn’t know the scores when I addressed the players after Saturday’s game.

“You automatically assume someone has gained on you, but it’s another game down and two games to go we’re sitting in 10th spot.

“We said a few weeks ago that 10th was first place for us in this mini league – on Saturday we missed an opportunity to go ninth.

“We knew a win on Saturday would have helped take some pressure off but now we know there is no grey area.

“The pressure is there clearly. We need to go to Tannadice and win, we’ve beaten them in the cup up there so we know we have that performance in us.

“There’s responsibility on our part, a win on Wednesday night would do everyone the world of good. We want to make sure we are playing Ross County on the back of a positive result.”
