Derek McInnes insists his side need to start killing games off – beginning with Hearts at home this weekend.
The Ayrshire outfit have let numerous late leads at home slip, dropping points in the process, with the last time the Jambos came to town sticking in the memory.
Kilmarnock led 2-1 in stoppage time before Nat Atkinson slammed home an equaliser with the last kick of the ball.
Boss McInnes knows that needs to change heading into this weekend.
He told the Kilmarnock Standard: “We need to start killing off the games, that’s clear to see. Against Aberdeen at home we got that second goal and although they got one back it didn’t come back and bite us.
“So, getting that second goal is what we need to be doing. It’s no good hanging on at 1-0 because anything can happen.
“People might thing we’re deliberately trying to sit back and hold on to what we’ve got, but I can assure you that’s not how it is.
“We need to manage games better. We will work on that as there’s been too many points dropped late in the game.”
He continued: “I look back at some of the games where we could have had more points, and Hearts at home is one of them.
“We could have easily been four, five, six points better off this season but we have to own the fact we are where we are.
“It’ll take a couple of big wins for us in the coming weeks. Any win against Hearts no matter how it comes would be a big one.
“We know we have the performance in us but we need to stay concentrated for the full game because Hearts have a lot of good players and they are pushing for third in the league.
“It won’t be without its challenges but it’s a game we feel we can win, the last game was an indication of that.”
