Kilmarnock boss Derek McInnes aiming to bag first league win on the road

Derek McInnes reckons there's plenty of positives to take despite a stuttering start to the season.

Kilmarnock head to Livingston tomorrow as they aim to bounce back from a defeat away to Hibs two weeks ago.

Killie's only wins on the road this season have been in the Premier Sports Cup, with the highlight coming at Hearts, but McInnes is aiming to put that right during their visit to West Lothian.

He feels that the squad are starting to click the more they work together.

He said: “From the six league games we’ve had, the two obvious disappointments were Easter Road and Ross County.

“But the home games against Dundee United and Motherwell were positives.

“The games against the Old Firm maybe came a bit quick for us while we were trying to assemble a squad as a newly assembled team.

“Hopefully by the time we play Rangers and Celtic next time round we’ll be more ready.

“Coming through our group and beating Hearts in the League Cup has been a positive.

“By and large given so much needed done, everything has been accelerated, there was a rush to put a squad together. Ideally it would have been a wee bit more structured.

“But we’re pleased with the work we’ve done. It’s not been perfect but considering what had to be done I’m pretty pleased. I think we’ll be competitive enough to do well.

“It’s up to us to now get the team up the league and start going on unbeaten runs throughout the season."

He added: “There’s a lot of boys from last season’s Championship-winning squad still key for us this season.

“But we felt we had to add certain attributes to the team, a bit more speed, and I think we’ve managed to do that.

“Jordan Jones comes back into things having not been able to call upon him.

“We’ve managed to get a bit more strength through the middle and bring in some good options at the back which you’ll always need with injuries and suspensions.

“Getting Zach Hemmings back was key for us but the time for judging it will be at the end of the season.

“But by and large when you look back to what was needed we’ve got to be pleased."
