Drivers in Killingworth have been praised for their patience after a family of swans held up traffic to cross the road.
In a video which has received almost two million views on TikTok, two adult swans can be seen ushering five young cygnets across a busy road, forcing traffic to come to a complete standstill.
Traffic begins to build up as the family take a slow stroll across the road, which has a lake located on each side. But TikTok users around the world have been moved by the patience of drivers who let the swans cross safely before continuing on their journey.
One person commented: "What a beautiful sight, people that care. This is what life's about, looking after everything." Another added: "I'm glad there's some people out there with a heart and respect to stop for these beautiful creatures with their family."
Another added: "Something to restore your faith in mankind."
Many people also took to the comments to commend the driver of a Morrisons delivery vehicle, who was among the first to stop to let the swans cross. One person said: "So much respect for Morrisons delivery. God bless you."
A second said: "To the @Morrisonhomedelivery #MorrisonHomeDelivery, this driver should get a raise or a big, huge bonus." A third added: "Brilliant PR for Morrisons there."
The video was uploaded to the social media site on Friday and has so far been viewed 1.9million times and received 185.7k likes. But it didn't take long for some viewers to recognise the location, with a number of them admitting to experiencing similar incidents in Killingworth.
One person commented: "The Killingworth swans are on another level." While another added: "Killy. Happens every year." A third said: "Killingworth lakes, drivers are very considerate, well done."
