Former Newcastle midfielder Didi Hamann has claimed that Kieran Tierney could find himself on the bench should he make the switch to Tyneside this summer. The Magpies have been strongly linked with a move for the Scotland international this summer, with Eddie Howe keen to strengthen that area of the squad.
Dan Burn has performed superbly at left-back for the majority of last season, with the Geordie defender impressing away from his usual centre-back role. Matt Targett has been restricted to just a handful of appearances after returning from injury, but with Tierney reportedly looking for more game time, he has been high on United's wishlist.
However, Hamann is not convinced the 26-year-old would oust Burn from the left-back spot, meaning he could move clubs just to continue to sit on the bench. Burn played on the left of Newcastle’s defence for the majority of last season and was a key part of why the Magpues had one of the meanest defences in Europe. Tierney played in 27 of Arsenal’s Premier League games and started only six of those.

“Dan Burn has played very well at left-back," Hamann told Casinos En Ligne. "If Kieran Tierney was to go to Newcastle United because he’s a part-time player at Arsenal, would it be any different at Newcastle?”
“The defence and back four have been sensational this season. I can understand why Eddie Howe would want him because he’s a very good player to have in your squad, but it remains to be seen if he’s happy to stay as second choice, behind Burn.
“Burn is doing a fantastic job at left-back, especially for someone of his height. You have to have him in the team because he guarantees goals and defending in set pieces, it would be mighty tough for Tierney to get in the team.”
It is widely believed Eddie Howe is looking for a left sided defender this summer after injuries to Matt Targett meant Burn was the only real option at left back for long periods last season.
