Kieran Tierney in hidden Arsenal transfer exit clue as fan gesture sends Newcastle United talk into overdrive

Arsenal fans reckon Kieran Tierney has played his final game for the club after an emotional lap of the Emirates at the end of the Premier League campaign.

The Scotland defender has struggled for regular game time this term since Oleksandr Zinchenko's arrival from Manchester City last summer - with the Ukraine star become Mikel Arteta's first-choice at left-back this term. That has sparked rumours of a move with Newcastle United tipped as a potential destination with a £30m price tag floated to take the 25-year-old to St James's Park as Eddie Howe prepares for the Champions League next term.

And the Gunners support reckon Tierney has already made his decision following the 5-0 win over Wolves. The full-back came off the bench during the final match of the campaign and joined his teammates in a lap of the stadium to thank fans, but appeared to hang back to soak up the atmosphere.

He was greeted by chants of "there’s only one Kieran Tierney" as he applauded the stands, and some have perceived the walk as a final farewell for the Scot. One Arsenal fan tweeted: "Watching that you'd think Kieran Tierney is gonna go. Sadly."

Another added: "It looks like he is hanging back to take it in for the last time." A disappointed punter noted: "Walking on his own isn't a good sign."

Boss Arteta admitted after the game that he was considering revamping his defensive options this season after injuries hampered their Premier League title bid - which could be a further sign the former Celtic star is heading out of the door. He said after the end of the campaign: "We had to adapt.

"We had some important injuries in our backline. We had three players out and we had seven players in the backline this season. That was a concern. There were certain things that I wanted to had adapt because I have been thinking a long time about those options. If not we are very exposed. I’m so happy with what they’ve done."
