Kieran Tierney handed 'mighty tough' Newcastle warning if ex-Celtic star makes transfer from Arsenal

Kieran Tierney has been warned it would be 'mighty tough' to break into the Newcastle team.

The former Celtic star has been strongly linked with an exit from Arsenal this summer with Eddie Howe believed to be a massive fan of the Scotland international. They are heading into the riches of the Champions League after a top four finish and could move to bring in the defender on board as they look to add strength and depth to the ranks.

Tierney played second fiddle in North London last season with Oleksandr Zinchenko - a summer signing from Manchester City - the preferred option by Mikel Arteta. His minutes came mainly as cameo appearances from the bench and Dietmar Hamann has warned he could experience similar at the Toon Army if he makes the switch due to the form of Dan Burn with his height a key weapon at both ends of the park.

Speaking to Casinos En Lign, he said: “Dan Burn has played very well at left-back. If Kieran Tierney was to go to Newcastle United because he's a part-time player at Arsenal, would it be any different at Newcastle?

"The defence and back four have been sensational this season. I can understand why Eddie Howe would want him because he's a very good player to have in your squad, but it remains to be seen if he's happy to stay as second choice, behind Burn.

"Burn is doing a fantastic job at left-back, especially for someone of his height. You have to have him in the team because he guarantees goals and defending in set pieces, it would be mighty tough for Tierney to get in the team.”

Mikael Silvestre, who had a spell at Arsenal, has urged his old side to keep Tierney and find a way to convince he can play his part next term. He told BettingExpert.com : "I think it’s important that Arsenal find a way to retain Kieran Tierney.

“Fighting for the title, playing in the Champions League again, you need two international level players in almost every position. So, they need to find a way to convince him that he’s part of the plan for next season.”
