Kids told 'Father Christmas has arrived' as red light fills sky

A mum was baffled when she saw the sky above her house lit up red last night.

Kate Edwards, who lives in Banks just north of Southport, received a phone call from her mum to say the sky was bright red. The 33-year-old went outside with her partner and brother after the World Cup Final to see the "ominous" looking sky.

Confused by the "flickering" red sky, she took to a local Facebook page to ask people what it was. She wrote: "Does anyone know what the red glow in the sky is? Pretty sure it’s not greenhouses this time of year. Is it [Father Christmas]?"

Kate, who runs a local children's nursery, told the ECHO : "My mum, who lives across the road from me, rang me to say the sky was red and it was flickering.

"I just said to her that it was probably the greenhouses nearby but she was adamant it wasn't so me, my partner and my brother all went outside to have a look after watching the football. It was really ominous."

People quickly commented on the post claiming it was just the greenhouses nearby which regularly light up the sky, but one person had a bit of fun with it. They wrote: "It's Father Christmas's coat glowing in the dark."

Kate added: "It was quite funny because one person said they told their children it was Father Christmas to get them to behave."
