Khloe Kardashian has recalled the moment she overheard her mother Kris Jenner talking about her needing a nose job as a child – and how it influenced how she viewed herself.
Back in 2013, the 39-year-old revealed how she was just nine years old when she overheard her mother chat to a friend’s about her daughter’s nose and how she needed a rhinoplasty.
Now a decade on, the reality TV star has dealt with a slew of criticism online regarding her “changing” looks – and that commentary was magnified further when she confirmed she’d eventually undergone a nose job, during the Keeping Up With The Kardashians reunion in 2021.
In the latest episode of The Kardashians, the Good American co-founder discussed her insecurities with sisters Kylie Jenner and Kourtney Kardashian – and how they have been intensified since being in the spotlight.
When Jenner remarked that “other people can instil insecurities”, Kardashian replied: “That’s how I accumulated all of mine, is from other people.
“I had the most confidence, I was chubby and in a skin-tight, bodycon dress. You couldn’t tell me otherwise. Society gave me insecurities.”
After Kourtney insisted that Khloe wasn’t “chubby” in the past, the mother-of-two referenced old photos to prove her point, before questioning whether she would have had a rhinoplasty if she hadn’t heard her mother Kris suggest one as a child.
She continued: “This is chubs. It’s like I’m wearing a fat suit. Who knows, if I never heard mom talk about my nose, if I would ever think I needed a nose job?”
Speaking in a confessional, Kardashian said she has always never felt “good enough” because she looked different from her older sisters.
She reflected: “I’ve been torn apart the minute that I’ve gone on TV. I didn’t look like my sisters so therefore it’s not good enough.
“When I started changing my look, you get better make-up, you do fillers, you do whatever. I had a nose job. And there’s still people constantly bullying you.
“So which one is it? You didn’t like me then; you don’t like me… You have to do things for yourself.
“We’re still growing up in front of the camera, regardless of how old we are, we’re still growing and evolving. It’s just unfair to have so much pressure put on people. We’re all just trying to do the best we can.”
The American star previously shed light on her mom’s comments in an interview with Cosmopolitan, back in 2013.
Khloe recalled at the time: “Words are the most powerful weapon; they can leave scars forever. She didn’t mean harm, but when I was around nine, I overheard my mom telling her friend I needed a nose job. I was shocked; I hadn’t even thought about it.
“I’ve grown into my face, but I’ve had makeup artists tell me, ‘You should get a nose job.’ I’m so happy that I never have… I’m proud for losing weight when I wanted to and I’ve never resorted to surgery.
“I’m not against it – one day I probably will, but it would be on my terms. I won’t be bullied into it by social media or anyone else. I love my body and always have done.”
