Khargone tanker blast: 4 more succumb to injuries; toll 11

INDORE: Four more people, including a female, who had suffered burns in a fuel tanker blast at Khargone in Madhya Pradesh on October 26 morning succumbed to burns at MY Hospital on Sunday.

Thus, the toll in the blast has gone up to 11.

The deceased included two males — Rahul (16) Ramesh (30) — and two females — Malubai (40) and another person aged 18 — official sources said.

All the deceased were residents of Anjangaon village in Khargone district.

Rahul, Ramesh and Malubai were having 80%, 46% and 99% burns when referred to MY Hospital with 14 others after the tanker blast, hospital authorities said.

The unidentified woman had suffered 64% burns.

A Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd tanker carrying fuel overturned near Anjangaon village on Wednesday and went up in flames.

Seeing the accident and fuel leaking from the overturned tanker, some villagers who were fetching water from a nearby hand pump rushed to collect the leaking fuel and were caught in the flames.

A woman was charred to death on the spot, and another person succumbed to burns on Friday while five more people died on Saturday.

MY Hospital superintendent Dr PS Thakur confirmed the deaths.
