KFC has unveiled its latest ploy to win over diners — boneless chicken.
The fried chicken chain announced Monday a menu revamp “centered around boneless chicken and crave-worthy sauces,” as KFC looks to keep up with its competitors and the growing popularity of chicken.
“In an increasingly crowded category, we have a clear opportunity to set the standard for modern chicken in QSR,” KFC Global CEO Scott Mezvinsky said in a statement. “This next chapter brings new energy and expression to what makes us iconic, while doubling down on chicken and reimagining how fans experience KFC around the world.”
In addition to expanding its boneless chicken options, the chain is introducing a lineup of over 20 new sauces for fans to dip their boneless chicken tenders into, ranging from modern twists on classics to more internationally-inspired flavors.
The new sauces will include Chimichurri Ranch and Hot Honey Habanero.
This month, restaurants in the U.K. and Ireland will see the new tenders rolling out, as well as nine new sauces. The new additions are set to hit locations in the U.S. and Australia later this summer.
KFC is also launching a menu line called “Dunked” featuring tenders, wings and sandwiches drenched in sauce, providing chicken lovers with an “immersive, flavor-first eating experience,” the company said.
These menu items are already available at KFC locations in South Africa and India.
KFC, which has 34,000 locations globally, is also joining scores of other fast food restaurants in expanding its drink selection.
The chain will soon include Boba Refreshers, sparkling lemonades and iced coffees under a new sub-brand called Kwench by KFC. The offerings are already available in some U.K. and Ireland locations, and will expand from a pilot program to permanent menu items in Australia and Canada sometime this year.
“Designed to meet growing demand for small, feel-good indulgences throughout the day, KWENCH gives fans a new way to treat themselves beyond mealtimes,” the company said.
The chain is also set to roll out new store designs, including an “open concept” restaurant in McKinney, Texas and an “immersive” two-story location in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Refreshed branding is also part of the new strategy. KFC’s new logo features Colonel Sanders sandwiched between “KFC” in the shape of a chicken bucket.
The company said it’s looking to make its logo feel “more relevant, more expressive, and more in tune with modern culture” all while “keeping it’s “iconic ‘Finger Lickin’ Good’ ethos.”
