Key steps are being made at a huge new Nottinghamshire neighbourhood that will be "much bigger" than a nearby village. Major progress is being made at the Fairham site, which is near Gotham and Clifton, with infrastructure being readied to support the 3,000 homes which will be built.
The new neighbourhood when fully built will have one million square feet of employment space, a primary school, community and sports facilities, and a neighbourhood centre. It will also have provision of a safeguarded route to allow for the possible future extension of the tram through the site, and gypsy and traveller pitches.
In the nearby village of Gotham, locals were cautious over the scale of the new housing development. David Smith, 83, who works in the aerospace industry and has lived in the village for 60 years, said: "It will be 200 years before we know if it was a good idea or not. We don't plant cabbages or seeds on land like that anymore, but in a sense we are seeding the ground with a new community in the families that will live there.
