Ian Murray has emerged as the frontrunner to become the new Raith Rovers boss after Kevin Thomson backed out of the running.
The Airdrie manager has entered advanced talks to replace John McGlynn at Stark's Park.
Raith made an attempt to land Kelty Hearts gaffer Thomson but discussions broke down when terms couldn't be agreed.
Murray is now expected to step into the void and make a move to the Championship club.
He was on their initial shortlist but when Raith started interviewing they were unable to talk to Murray because he was still involved in the play-offs to get to the Championship.
Airdrie eventually lost to Queen’s Park and the delay in the appointment has now opened the door for Murray.
The Kirkcaldy club have been looking for a new boss since John McGlynn quit for Falkirk in the summer.
Murray has previously had spells in charge of Dumbarton and St Mirren.
The former Rangers and Hibs star has been in charge of Airdrie since 2018 and has led them into the League One play-offs over the last two seasons.
