Kevin Thomson lined up by Cove Rangers following Kelty Hearts resignation

Kevin Thomson 'lined up' by Cove Rangers following Kelty Hearts resignation

COVE RANGERS are interested in offering Kevin Thomson the chance to become their new manager.

The Championship club have been without a gaffer since Paul Hartley left the club for Hartlepool United.

Thomson resigned as Kelty Hearts manager just two-weeks ago following a hugely successful debut season in the duggout.

The former Hibs and Rangers midfielder guided the Fife outfit to League Two glory in their first campaign in the senior ranks.

Kelty won the division at a canter, and also enjoyed a good Scottish Cup run where they knocked out St Johnstone at New Central Park.

He opted to stand down from his position in the hotseat though in order to explore other options to develop his coaching career.

And his next job could be at the Balmoral Stadium.

Cove are impressed by Thomson and are prepared to offer him a swift return to management.

It is also said that Thomson would be interested in the role.

Should he take it, Thomson will see himself jump up another division into the Championship, where Cove will compete against the likes of Dundee, Partick Thistle, Inverness and Queen's Park.

His managerial exploits have attracted attention from a number of clubs throughout the year, including from Kilmarnock and Raith Rovers.

He was interviewed for the position at Rugby Park back in January, however, Derek McInnes was selected as their preferred candidate.

He also held talks with Raith following John McGlynn's exit recently, but personal terms could not be agreed.
