The Arizona Cardinals made a surprise release in Week 18 leading up to their final game of the season, releasing defensive lineman Kevin Strong. He had not been playing poorly.
Head coach Jonathan Gannon’s only comment about the roster move was that it was “what’s best for the team.”
Howard Balzer reported it was a personal matter that led to Strong’s release but that things were handled amicably.
Balzer noted that there is hope and positive belief he could be re-signed down the line.
Strong finished the season appearing 14 games, starting 11 of them. He had 46 total tackles, 2.5 sacks, five tackles for loss, three quarterback hits, a pass breakup and a fumble recovery. He set career-highs in every category but games played and pass breakups.
