Kevin Pietersen lands England coaching job after controversial end to international career

Kevin Pietersen England World Cup

Kevin Pietersen has been appointed as a specialist mentor to the England white-ball cricket teams by head coach Brendon McCullum ahead of next year’s Cricket World Cup.
The 46-year-old former international cricketer joins a coaching staff that includes Marcus Trescothick, Tim Southee, Jeetan Patel, and Sarah Taylor.
Pietersen will mentor the squad during the upcoming Sri Lanka series, winter tours of Australia and South Africa, home series against Pakistan and New Zealand, and the World Cup in Southern Africa.
The role marks Pietersen's first official involvement with the England team since his playing career ended in controversial circumstances following the 2013-14 Ashes tour to Australia when England suffered a whitewash series defeat.
South African-born Pietersen described returning to the England setup to assist in their World Cup campaign as a “profound honour and a deeply special moment”.
