Ryan emphasized that character is a crucial aspect of the job and stated that he believes Trump lacks the necessary character for the position.
In response to Ryan's comments, California Republican Kevin McCarthy, who also served as Speaker, defended his support for Trump by pointing out the policy achievements during Trump's presidency. McCarthy highlighted that under Trump's administration, the country did not experience issues such as inflation, war in Europe, embassy evacuations, or controversial decisions like the withdrawal from Afghanistan.
