An annual charity football match is set to take place this Saturday in memory of Kevin Haddow for the first time since the pandemic.
Kevin Haddow, from Balloch, was a skilled engineer at Chivas Brothers, who passed away suddenly in 2015, aged just 23.
The Kevin Haddow Memorial Cup takes place in his memory annually between Balloch Brigada and Govan Emerald CSC.
This year it will be held at Argyll Park, with all the money raised being donated to Men Matter Scotland.
Kevin was a dedicated Celtic fan who travelled to games with the Govan Emerald CSC bus, with a banner being displayed in 2015 at McDiarmid Park before a Hoops game in his memory.
Kevin’s sister, Jane Haddow, 28, has been challenged by her mental health since her brother’s passing, but has recently turned a corner and hopes to make a difference by sharing her story and helping charities.
She said: “It is definitely a new chapter for me. My brother passed away in 2015, and, ever since, I have been trying to raise money for mental health.
“Usually, we donate to SAMH, but we try to change it up every year. We have donated to Chris’s House before, and, this year, we are donating to Men Matter Scotland.
“I try to do my bit to help different charities.”
Jane has done more than her bit to help charities, including raising £4700 for SAMH in 2017 through the charity match.
Jane is looking forward to the game on Saturday and hopes for as big a turnout as that, she said: “This is the first one back post covid, and hopefully it’ll be a belter. Usually the turnout is great, so we’re hoping for the same again.
“Without everybody’s support, from donations to raffles to volunteers, then we wouldn’t be able to do it. So we do rely on the local community coming forward.”
