NBA fans always can depend on Kevin Garnett to give them his unfiltered opinion on myriad topics. He often can be harsh, but this time he decided to give some brotherly advice to one of the NBA’s biggest stars—who has made mistake after mistake recently.
The all-time great took some time out with former Celtics teammate Tony Allen, and the two chopped it up while discussing Ja Morant. The Grizzlies star is facing a 25-game suspension to start the 2023–24 season after he flashed a handgun on Instagram Live for the second time.
“You don’t get to pick and choose when you wanna be a professional, young fella,” Garnett said on KG Certified. “You gotta do better. You gotta put yourself around better to do better.”
The company Morant surrounds himself with has been widely discussed ever since the 23-year-old first landed in hot water, and Allen addressed the same issue as well.
“He gotta get the right people around him,” Allen said. “I know that sound cliché, but more so than anything, you need some cats around you that’s gon’ let you know when you wrong, when you bogus.”
Allen won an NBA title with Garnett in 2008 before leaving for the Grizzlies in 2010. While there, he was one of the NBA’s best defenders and most dependable veterans. Hopefully for Morant, their advice gets through.
