Kevin Costner and wife Christine Baumgartner are divorcing after nearly 19 years of marriage

Kevin Costner and his wife Christine Baumgartner are getting divorced, a representative for the actor has announced.

“It is with great sadness that circumstances beyond his control have transpired which have resulted in Mr Costner having to participate in a dissolution of marriage,” the Hollywood star’s publicist Arnold Robinson said.

“We ask that his, Christine’s and their children’s privacy be respected as they navigate this difficult time,” he added.

Costner and Baumgartner, a model and handbag designer, began dating in 1998 before getting married at his Colorado ranch in 2004.

According to TMZ, Baumgartner, 49, asked for joint custody of their three children: Cayden, 15, Hayes, 14, and Grace, 12. Costner reportedly responded to the petition on Tuesday, also requesting joint custody of the children.

It was the second marriage for Costner, 68, the Oscar and Emmy-winning star of TV’s Yellowstone and films including Dances With Wolves, The Bodyguard and Bull Durham.

His 16-year marriage marriage to Cindy Silva ended in 1994. Their divorce was one of the most expensive in Hollywood history at the time with Silva being awarded around $80 million in the settlement.

The pair had three children together: Annie, 39, Lily, 36, and Joe, 35. Two years after the split, Costner had a son, Liam, with Bridget Rooney, heiress to the Pittsburgh Steelers, and aunt of actresses Rooney and Kate Mara.
