Kerry Katona under fire over 'insensitive' baby scan announcement

Kerry Katona has apologised after being called out for an "insensitive" Instagram post.

The former Atomic Kitten singer shared an April Fool's Day prank on Friday by sharing a picture of an ultrasound on social media. Before deleting her post, she had edited the caption and said 'bloody knew you lot wouldn't bloody believe me.'

While she had seemingly expected people to find the post funny, many of her followers slammed the "pregnancy announcement". Some called the post "shocking" and "weird".

Taking to Twitter, Sarah Cheryl said: "To do this as an April Fool's joke is disgusting. The pain this will cause some people is heartbreaking". Meg N said: "I'm sorry but this isn't funny at all"

Mark P said: "Faking a pregnancy for April Fool's is just weird", while Kerri Lee said: "[This is] hurtful and disgusting to some people". Linda Dwan, however, said: "I won't hear a bad word said about Kerry Katona, all of us have messed up, none of us are perfect."

Posting a lengthy statement on her Instagram stories on Friday afternoon, the singer apologised for any offence caused. She also said she has learnt her lesson.

The post said: "So here's me thinking I was posting the most unoriginal April Fools joke by telling my other half he'd unintentionally knocked me up was the norm on the 1st April! Lesson learnt! Absolutely no malice and most certainly no intent to upset anyone!

"I honestly feel sick to my core that anyone would think I would intentionally go out of my way to upset another human being! Last time I do April fool! My sincere apologies, sorry folks."
