Kerry GAA star David Clifford explains social media absence with very good reason

Kerry GAA star and now All-Ireland winning footballer David Clifford has explained his absence from social media apps, RSVP reports.

Unlike other sports stars and lads his age, the All-Ireland medallist doesn’t have an account on the likes of Instagram and Twitter.

For David, not signing up to social media wasn't a conscious decision to shy away from any negativity in his playing life and because of his job as a teacher, it was because it was so time consuming.

David told RSVP Magazine: "I have never had any interest in social media. It takes up a lot of your time and it is not something that ever appealed to me.

"I will probably keep it that way going forward."

Away from GAA, David has a strong interest in other sports and that helps him to unwind after a busy week of training and matches with club and county.

The Kerry man said: "I am interested in a lot of other sports like soccer. I play a bit of golf whenever I can as well."

Even though he is only 23, David is one of the greatest footballers to have played the game. Over the years, he has been influenced by a number of players both from the world of GAA and further afield.

He said: "It is hard to know but someone like former Celtic striker and Sweden player Henrik Larsson would be one. In the world of GAA, I would say Colm Gooch Cooper or Declan O’Sullivan, they would have been heroes of mine growing up."
