KOCHI: The National Investigation Court (NIA) court on Friday sent Shahrukh Saifi, the sole accused in the Elathur train arson case, to judicial custody till May 27.
The NIA produced Saifi before the court on Friday after his custody period expired.
Earlier on May 2, the NIA got Saifi in their custody for seven days. Later on May 9, the court granted three more days of the accused custody to the NIA. During the custody period, the agency has conducted evidence collection as well as interrogation of the accused.
However, the NIA is yet to make any major breakthrough in the conspiracy angle of the case. During the custody period, Saifi reportedly maintained his earlier stand that he had not received any support from others for committing the crime.
The agency has collected the information of around 10 people, whom the accused had contacted before or after the attack. All of them were interrogated and their mobile phones and other digital gadgets were seized and sent for forensic analysis.
