Kerala: Three tribal children beaten up in Wayanad

KOZHIKODE: Three tribal children, who were fishing in a stream near a paddy field around 4pm on Independence Day, were brutally beaten up by the landowner in Wayanad. Two seven-year-old boys and a six-year-old of Neikkuppa Chakkitapoyil Paniya colony were injured after he hit them with a stick.

Kenichira police registered a case against Radhakrishnan under SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. He allegedly hit these kids saying that they were damaging the boundary ridge of his paddy field. Meanwhile, a relative of one of the kids, who saw the incident, said the kids were fishing in a nearby stream and the accused hit them on their legs and back without even asking them to move away.

One of the kids had recently undergone a major heart surgery. Their parents came to the field on hearing their cries and took them to Panamaram government hospital where they were provided medical care and discharged later. The kids are students of St Thomas LP School. The case has been handed over to Mananthavady special mobile squad's deputy SP for investigation.
