THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state police have written to the government asking to create 142 posts for the expansion and proper implementation of emergency response support system (ERSS), the Centre’s initiative to integrate multiple distress helplines into one single number 112, launched in 2019.
The activities of ERSS in the state are being coordinated by the state police through its control unit functioning in the state headquarters. However, dedicated deputation of police personnel for ERSS from its other units are adversely affecting the works of the other units. In this backdrop, the state police chief proposed the government to create the posts in the state emergency response centre (SERC) under the Kerala state disaster management authority.
