KOCHI: A high court bench of Justice Mary Joseph on Friday stayed the trial in the case over lynching of 30-year-old tribal A Madhu at Attappadi in 2018 by alleging that he stole rice from a shop.
The move came after considering a petition filed by Madhu's mother, Malli, seeking a directive to change the public prosecutor in the case. She referred to witnesses turning hostile and alleged that the accused may go scot-free if the present prosecutor continues to appear. The mother alleged that the examination of witnesses presently being conducted at the trial court do not adhere to the basic principles of law and that the trial is not proceeding in the right direction. Staying the trial, the high court has now sought the views of the state government in the matter.
