Kerala blasts | Woman vlogger booked for ‘objectionable’ social media remarks

The Kerala Police have filed an FIR under Section 153 (wantonly giving provocation with an intent to cause riot) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against a woman vlogger and another person for their controversial social media posts in which they tried to connect People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader Abdul Nazir Maudany with the multiple blasts at a convention centre at Kalamassery in Kochi, Kerala on October 29, 2023.

The Thrikkakara police have also slapped Section 34 of the IPC (when a criminal act is done by several persons in furtherance of the common intention of all) and Section 120 (o) (causing nuisance and violation of public order through any means of communication) of the Kerala Police Act against the accused that include vlogger Lasitha Palakkal and one Sreeraj R., both belonging to Ernakulam. The complaint was lodged by Asharaf P.A, an office-bearer of the PDP in Kochi.

The FIR stated that the woman made “objectionable” comments through her Facebook account and allegedly tried to link Mr. Maudany to the blasts. The other accused included photographs of the PDP leader in his social media posts related to the blasts.
