A 65-year-old woman who was a close relative of Kenya's first Ebola patient died Friday evening, Oct. 23, becoming the country's second Ebola death, Kenya's Health Ministry said, according to the Associated Press. She began showing symptoms about 10 days earlier while already in quarantine. Kenya has confirmed nine cases. The remaining seven patients are being treated in two isolation facilities, and no new infections were reported Friday.
The same week, investigators widened the question of how the virus has moved between countries. Africa CDC said Kenya's first patient and Nigeria's first patient both passed through Uganda's Entebbe International Airport on Oct. 3, and officials are examining whether they shared equipment or had other contact, Premium Times reported. Officials stress that no connection has been established and that the airport is one of several scenarios under review.
