Kenya has confirmed its first Ebola case, making it the fourth country to report a case in the current outbreak, after Congo, Uganda and France. A Kenyan man who had been living in the Democratic Republic of the Congo traveled by road to Kampala, Uganda, then took a commercial flight to Nairobi, where he died after testing positive for Bundibugyo virus, CIDRAP reported.
Health officials are monitoring 28 contacts in Kenya, including relatives and health workers, and are tracing 23 passengers and four crew members from his flight. The case matters because Nairobi is a major regional air hub, and the patient's route shows how an outbreak that is hard to control can reach new cities.
