Many Kentuckians may not realize that at tax time, they can file their personal income tax returns, electronically through the state. Barbara Quackenboss is the director of income tax at the Department of Revenue. She said people can file state and federal returns on the department’s website -- revenue.ky.gov.
“We also have Kentucky File, which means that they can file an individual income tax return without going through the IRS, directly through our website. Some of the taxpayers choose to do that.”
She said most returns take 4 to 6 weeks to process.
“The advantage to doing it early is they can receive their refund earlier and quicker and we can get the bulk of our refunds done early on.”
Quackenboss also encourages taxpayers to check the status of their refund by visiting refund.ky.gov, rather than calling the department or a branch office.
