Kenny Doughty's Vera co-stars stay silent after actor's Instagram post worries fans

Kenny Doughty's Vera co-stars have so far stayed silent, as a 'thanks for the memories' post made by the popular actor has left fans of the hit ITV drama concerned for its future.

Less than two weeks after Vera's latest series came to an end, Kenny, who has been playing DCI Stanhope's sidekick DS Aiden Healy in the show since 2015, took to Instagram to share a series of photographs from behind the scenes on Vera, which saw him pose alongside fellow cast members like Brenda Blethyn and Jon Morrison.

Former Coronation Street actor Kenny simply captioned the heart-warming shots: 'Thank you for the memories' and, having offered no further explanation, the reflective tone to the post left his followers convinced that either he had walked away from his role as AIden or that the show itself had come to an end.

Appeals from Vera viewers for Kenny to elaborate on what he meant by his caption have so far fallen on deaf ears and, after ITV Drama told Chronicle Live they had 'no news at present,' at the time of writing, no other Vera star had reacted to Kenny's post, or posted anything similar themselves.

The last time leading lady Brenda was active on social media was on March 1, as she shared an appeal to find a missing dog, while Riley Jones hasn't posted anything on the platform since being in New York to see a huge Vera billboard, as series 12 finale aired on ITV.

Kenny's Instagram and Twitter posts are attracting more attention all the time, with one of his followers responding: "You can't just leave a tweet like that, are you leaving or has Vera been axed ????" A second commented: "Please say this is only a end of series roundup"

One thing that is for sure is that another episode of Vera HAS been filmed, after the cast reunited before Christmas to work on the screen adaptation of hit Ann Cleeves novel The Rising Tide.
