Kenny Dalglish backs Brendan Rodgers Celtic transfer patience as Hoops legend names Kyogo as benchmark

Kenny Dalglish believes that Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers will go for quality over quantity in the current window - and he could leave it late if waiting for the right profile to go alongside current giants such as Kyogo Furuhashi.

A little look down the road and Hoops fans will somewhat be surprised by their bitter rivals having already made six summer signings, which is double Celtic's who have made just three - and that includes the permanent addition of Tomoki Iwata to their ranks.

That, of course, has been offset by Ange Postecoglou's departure and the subsequent arrival of Rodgers, who has taken his time at Parkhead before getting to work on pre-season. But whilst arrivals will be imminent, Dalglish believes that Rodgers will take his time to target the right profile before plunging to make a signing - especially with the coffers being boosted by the sale of Jota.

He told the Sunday Post: "I'd expect new faces to arrive that are guys Brendan has had his eye on. And with the Hoops in such a strong financial position there could well be a signing or two which really catches the imagination.

"Some players who are given the chance to sign for Celtic might think twice as the competition to get into the team is so strong. But the ones that have belief and would back themselves in a challenge, will go to Parkhead.

"That's the kind of guys that want to have in the dressing room and on the park. That's the type Brendan will be going for. He'll want players with the attitude and quality of Kyogo."

"The level of consistency that will be required will be as high as ever. Celtic didn't win the Treble last season by chance. They were a formidable team and deserved the clean sweep. They will be ready to go again and will feel a new sense of hunger and determination with a new manager on board."
