Kenneth Gainwell was the best running back on the Eagles roster during the playoffs and Super Bowl, with the expectation that he’d enter 2023 as the guy.
Gainwell will get his share of touches this season, along with D’Andre Swift (trade) and Rashaad Penny (free agency).
Philadelphia re-signed Boston Scott and still has Trey Sermon on the roster, making for a crowded running back by committee.
After a recent practice, the former Memphis dual-threat told Dave Zangaro of NBC Sports Philadelphia that he’s just trying to stand out in a “crowded running back” group.
“Oh it’s been good,” Gainwell said. “We’ve been pushing each other. First day of pads, we pushed each other to make sure we finished runs, just continue to attack each other on everything with blocking and catching the ball and running hard. Just competing on every small things.”
Gainwell has averaged 4.4 yards per carry, has 56 catches (7.5 yards per catch), and has ten total touchdowns in a reduced role.
In this rotation, he’ll join D’Andre Swift and Rashaad Penny as the top three backs, with Boston Scott and Trey Sermon fighting for a roster spot and carries.
